CARRIE remake? Psssh. CARRIE: THE MUSICAL is making a return!
It's been previously rumored the infamous CARRIE: THE MUSICAL would rear its head again in New York City and yesterday Playbill confirmed its first castings and premiere date. Set to go up January 31, 2012 at NYC's Lucille Lortel Theatre, the show will star Marin Mazzie and Molly Ranson as Margaret and Carrie White.
From Off Broadway's MCC Theater, the show is being presented as "a newly reworked and fully re-imagined vision of this gripping tale," set in present day Maine. They provide this synopsis: "Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she's an outcast who's bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie's just discovered she's got a special power, and if pushed too far, she's not afraid to use it…"
The first incarnation of the stage show famously flopped in 1988 and I am dying to see it revived. Hopefully the re-workings don't add too much in the way of knowing nods and winks, and just let the apparently terrible show play out in all its glory.
