Move over Taylor Lautner, there’s a new werewolf with abs in town. Frankly, I’m more of a Robert Pattinson guy myself, but for those who like their lycanthropes fit rather than fierce, ONE TREE HILL’s Joe Manganiello is playing the werewolf Alcide in TRUE BLOOD’s Season Three. 

EW spoke with executive producer Alan Ball about the new character and his role this year. “There is definitely some [sexual] energy between the two of them,” he says of Alcide and Sookie (Anna Paquin), who team up to track down her kidnapped boyfriend Bill (Stephen Moyer). “It’s not like either one of them is looking for romance, but they’re thrown into several intense situations [and] it’s hard not to bond on a deeper level.”

And, of course, Alcide sheds his shirt. “The first shirtless scene [Joe] had, I was like, ‘Who has those abs?’ ” Ball says. “He’s in crazy peak physical condition. He’s eating nothing but pure protein. And of course, this being TRUE BLOOD, he’s already shot his first naked scene. Hello, werewolves when they shift—no clothes!” 

TRUE BLOOD’s Season Three begins June 12.
