Yesterday at WonderCon in San Francisco, New Line/Warner Bros. hosted a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET panel where new footage was shown and several of the cast turned up to discuss the remake, which opens April 30. Attendees got a good look at Freddy Krueger, played by Jackie Earle Haley, as he threatened one of the film's youthful protagonists.
HitFix has offered up a report on the panel, which was attended by Haley, Thomas Dekker and Rooney Mara (the new Nancy). The latter explained the take she and the redux’s creators applied to the role previously played by Heather Langenkamp: “I think everyone’s really familiar with Nancy and her character. Our version is a little bit different from the original. I hope you guys like it. Our Nancy’s slightly darker than the original Nancy. She’s sort of a tortured, lonely soul just trying to figure out what's happening to her.”

As for Haley (whose new look was revealed recently by Superhero Hype, as seen above), he noted, “I felt that it was important for me to try to find a way to play this character where there was still something familiar about him, because there are so many fans—obviously the hat, the glove and the sweater—but also to do it in such way where I was still able to make it my own.”
