MGM is finally putting the long-rumored CHILD’S PLAY reboot into production. I guess Good Guy Dolls don’t finish last!
MovieWeb nabbed the news. The first CHILD’S PLAY came out in 1988 and was followed by CHILD’S PLAY 2 & 3, BRIDE OF CHUCKY and SEED OF CHUCKY. The remake had been in development for several years, with a script already written by Don Mancini, who penned all the previous entries. The remake’s delay was apparently due to rights issues with MGM and Universal. The former has the rights to the original CHILD’S PLAY, while the latter has the rights to the sequels; apparently, the studios struck a deal.
Production is said to begin on the remake sometime later this year, with Brad Dourif returning as the deadly doll’s voice. Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but the CHILD’S PLAY reboot is supposed to darker and less comedic than the franchise’s increasingly humorous follow-ups.
