Showtime has bought a script for CHEW, based on John Layman and Rob Guillory’s comic book centering on Tony Chu, a cannibal detective who’s also a “Cinopathic”—someone who can psychically hear the thoughts of the food he eats.
According to Deadline, which got the exclusive, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET: THE DREAM CHILD and PREDATOR 2 director Stephen Hopkins is attached to helm and executive produce the project, which hails from Circle of Confusion, the company behind AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD.
Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer—the writing team who penned IDLE HANDS and worked on the CW’s SUPERNATURAL—scripted CHEW, which will now be tweaked under Showtime’s guidance. Click here to read Jorge Sollis’ review of CHEW SCRIPT BOOK, which reprints the origin story of Tony Chu.
