WANTED director Timur Bekmambetov is in talks to helm a film version of Peter Ackroyd’s book THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN. The 2009 novel is a retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic in which Shelley appears as a character who argues with Victor Frankenstein about his atheistic beliefs. As the good doctor experiments with resurrecting dead bodies, he strikes a deal with the Doomsday men, who put his life in danger thanks to their grisly methods.
Total Film announced that Tony Award-winning writer David Auburn is penning the adaptation, and while Bekmambetov is reportedly being sought, he has yet to sign anything. The Russian director previously helmed the NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH films and produced last fall’s animated 9 with Tim Burton.
