Ryan Murphy (pictured) and Brad Falchuk, former executive producers of FX’s frequently grisly NIP/TUCK who have more recently found success with the lighter GLEE on Fox, are returning to their former network and the dark side with a pilot called AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

With Murphy directing the pilot, which is currently casting, and Dante Di Loreto also serving as an executive producer, shooting will begin in April, and if it goes to series, production will commence in late spring for a debut on FX this fall. “We knew this project was perfect for FX,” Falchuk says. “That network put itself on the map for its big, bold, some might say slightly twisted shows, and the creative freedom we had on NIP/TUCK was incredibly liberating. John [Landgraf, president and general manager of FX] immediately got what we were trying to do, which was bring the horror genre to television but with our own subversive sensibilities. And we couldn’t be more excited to get started.”

Plot details have yet to be revealed, but Murphy says, “AMERICAN HORROR STORY is a project that Brad and I have been discussing for a while. John Landgraf and I have maintained a wonderful relationship since NIP/TUCK ended its run and he gave me an open invitation to develop a new show for the network. FX is the perfect place for this series and we look forward to a great homecoming.” Adds Landgraf, “AMERICAN HORROR STORY is a wildly brilliant original series. Ryan and Brad are evil geniuses.” We’ll keep you posted on further details. (Thanks to Abbie Bernstein)
