Some serious New York grit is about to get all up in Austin when legendary cult director and Blue Underground head honcho, William Lustig invades the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz (320 E 6th Street, 510- 476-1320) for screenings of MANIAC, MANIAC COP 2 and VIGILANTE tonight and tomorrow. Read on for screening info and to see the (expectedly) gorgeous prints from Mondo to commemorate the events…

The blood-soaked madness kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. with a brand new 35mm print of MANIAC, Lustig’s sleazy, infamous slasher starring Joe Spinell as a man severely disturbed by his mother and taking it out on the women of Manhattan. It’s something to behold and features a really great and truly weird last act After, at 10 p.m., Lustig will present MANIAC COP 2, a truly out-of-control tale that just begs to be seen by all.

Tomorrow, February 9th, the filmmaker will be back for a special presentation of his Robert Forster-starring revenge saga, VIGILANTE.

The fact that Lustig, who is a total pleasure to hear talk, will be on hand for all three should immediately prompt you to be in attendance. But if that’s not enough, the Drafthouse will be selling these three one-sheets, from Mondo (the Drafthouse’s collectible art boutique) at the theater, as well as online this Thursday February 10 at a random time. The posters showcase some stunning work by Alan Hynes (VIGILANTE), Ken Taylor (MANIAC) and Jason Edmiston (MANIAC COP 2) and as always, will be quite limited.

For more on the screenings, check out the Alamo’s official site/blog and to keep up with the online poster sale this Thursday, follow Mondo on Twitter.

MANIAC was released in a really terrific 30th Anniversary DVD/Blu package last October, check out my review here.
