Rob Cohen, producer of the original 80’s cult classic THE MONSTER SQUAD is looking to remake the beloved film, and this time, direct as well. Read on for the bad news of who will be producing alongside Cohen.
Deadline reports that horror classic remake savages Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will be incorporating the new MONSTER SQUAD under their Platinum Dunes banner and are currently meeting with writers.
UPDATE: AintitCool has spoken with original SQUAD director Fred Dekker, and here's what he had to say:
"It'd be one thing if another filmmaker wanted to soil my sandbox... but if it weren't for Rob Cohen, the original movie would never have been made. So I don't begrudge him wanting to play in his own sandbox. I wish him well, and thank him for the opportunity he gave me in the first place." You can check out their story on the matter here.
If you’ve never seen THE MONSTER SQUAD, Fred Dekker’s 1987 film revolves around a band of young creature lovers who must contend with Dracula, Frankenstien, the Mummy, the Wolfman and the Gill Man who show up in their small town looking for an amulet that will help them rule the world. Cohen’s last film, THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was the third in a series attempting to revive one of the classic monsters.
Hopefully, this new iteration doesn’t lack nards.
