Members of the Fango family will be making an appearance this Sunday, March 21 at the historic Byrd Theater in Richmond, VA when the James River Film Festival presents the documentary VIRGINIA CREEPERS: THE HORROR HOST TRADITION OF THE OLD DOMINION. Richmond-area fans who remember the Bowman Body (pictured left), Dr. Gruesome and Skeeter (pictured below) and perhaps even Ghoulda or Hazel Witch will want to take the opportunity to see the movie on the big screen.

They’ll also get to meet the film’s directors and even some of the horror hosts featured in VIRGINIA CREEPERS. We’ll be there talking with fans and handing out tons of free swag, including complimentary copies of FANGORIA magazine, Tartan Asian Extreme DVDs and delicious horror lollipops (while supplies last).

“Richmond has a great horror-host tradition, and we are very excited about bringing CREEPERS to the capital,” says Horse Archer Productions’ Sean Kotz, co-producer and co-director of the documentary, which is gaining national attention (including a current Rondo Award nomination for Best Independent Production). “We recovered lost footage, audio, photos and even hosts and programs that would have otherwise been forgotten,” Kotz adds.

Co-producer and co-director Chris Valluzzo notes that shows like SHOCK THEATER and DR. GRUESOME’S MOVIE MOGUE were beloved by Southern audiences and often drew better ratings than THE TONIGHT SHOW locally. Several relatively new hosts are continuing the tradition on cable and the Internet, including Karlos Borloff of MONSTER MADHOUSE and Dr. Sarcofiguy of the SPOOKY MOVIE SHOW, who will both be in attendance. After the film, there will be a Q&A panel hosted by Fangoria.com writer John Porter. There will even be opportunities for fans to contribute to a new film on horror hosts with interviews and their personal memorabilia.
