After Dark Films has announced that it has pacted with Lionsgate (its regular DVD distributor) and the Syfy channel for another lineup of features. As opposed to the 8 Films to Die For in After Dark’s previous Horrorfests, however, these will not be acquisitions but original productions.

The After Dark Originals will be unveiled in September 2010 “with a new and innovative marketing and release strategy,” according to the company. The titles include HUSK (pictured, director Brett Simmons’ expansion of his popular killer-scarecrow short film), FERTILE GROUND, SCREAM OF THE BANSHEE, PROWL, TASK, RE-KILL, SECONDS APART and 51; other filmmakers involved include AUTOMATON TRANSFUSION’s Steven C. Miller and Adam Gierasch of AUTOPSY and the NIGHT OF THE DEMONS remake. Seven of the flicks are in postproduction, having lensed in the U.S. and Bulgaria, with the last one set to roll this month.

“The writers and directors in our After Dark Originals line are outstanding,” says company topper Courtney Solomon. We are excited to showcase their work and to give a home to all this fresh young talent that we will continue to develop over time.” A whole second round of Originals have already been greenlighted, and will begin shooting this coming July. We’ll bring you more details as we find ’em out; the After Dark Originals official website (sporting just a nasty little teaser right now, with updates coming April 1) can be seen here.
