Last year, British indie filmmaker Marc Price won a lot of attention with his undead opus COLIN, which he made for just £45 (about $75). Now comes word that American audiences will be able to catch his homegrown chiller on the big screen.
The Walking Shadows company has acquired COLIN and will give it theatrical bookings in major U.S. cities this fall. Alastair Kirton stars in the title role as a young man who falls victim to a zombie plague sweeping Britain—but he retains traces of humanity, and the movie follows him as he shambles through his new and frightening environment. COLIN has won a number of festival awards, and Price, who is currently developing the slightly higher-budgeted feature THUNDERCHILD, says he hopes his example will inspire others. “If our film does anything,” he says, “hopefully it will make some 14-year-old who wishes to make a movie say, ‘Oh, it’s entirely possible, because my mobile phone has a better resolution than this guy’s camcorder.’ I am really excited by the idea of people watching my cheap little film and thinking, ‘If this guy can do it, then so can I.’ ” COLIN will also hit DVD and VOD around Halloween of this year.
