The initial details have been revealed for the multiple disc releases of George A. Romero’s SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD. The latest in his zombie saga arrives on single DVD, a two-DVD Ultimate Undead Edition and Blu-ray August 24 from Magnolia Home Entertainment under the Magnet Releasing banner.
Special features announced so far include:
• Audio commentary by Romero
• WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT documentary
• SARGE short film
• Romero introduction
And more; it’s not clear whether these will be on the solo DVD or just the double-discer. We’ll bring you further details shortly. Retail prices are $26.98 for the single DVD, $29.98 for the Ultimate Undead Edition and Blu-ray (which will have the same artwork).

Meanwhile, cover art has surfaced for Lionsgate Home Entertainment’s DVD and Blu-ray releases of Andrew Paquin’s psychological chiller OPEN HOUSE, coming August 3 from Lionsgate; see the disc details here. And Home Media Magazine reports that Warner Home Video will bring the classic 1933 KING KONG to Blu-ray September 28. The 1080p transfer of the complete version of the monster-movie landmark will include the special features from the previous DVD:
• Seven-part documentary on the making of KONG
• Commentary by FX veteran Ray Harryhausen and Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Cooper and KONG heroine Fay Wray
• Documentary on KONG creator Merian C. Cooper by Kevin Brownlow and Christopher Bird
• Trailers
The disc will come packaged with a 32-page color book containing trivia by film historian Rudy Behlmer and photos. Retail price is $34.99.
