With Catherine Hardwicke doing a new Gothic take on RED RIDING HOOD, it’s inevitable that other grim fairy tales are in the works for the screen. Now comes word that SNOW WHITE is the next to be given a darker shade.

Variety reports that the horror-oriented SNOW WHITE is one of a series of horror, thriller and sci-fi projects being planned by director A.D. Calvo (pictured) and producer Todd Slater, for which the duo have recently secured financing. The movies, which will be budgeted in the $3-5-million range, additionally include a campus thriller called HOUSE OF DUST, and will be produced by Calvo’s Goodnight Film and Slater Brothers Entertainment. The duo previously collaborated on 2008’s dramatic thriller THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS; Slater served as an executive producer on the upcoming CHAIN LETTER and TRANCE, while Calvo has also helmed numerous shorts including HYPNOGOTHIC and THE SEVERAL SEVERED HEADS OF DANIEL EDWARDS.
