British writer/director Daniel Simpson gave Fango some details and exclusive photos (see ’em after the jump) on his new fright film SPIDERHOLE. The movie was recently picked up for UK/Irish distribution by Soda Pictures, which plans a theatrical release this fall.

Simpson, who had previously attempted to mount the killer-claymation chiller BORN, explains the story to us: “SPIDERHOLE is about four young art-school students who decide to squat at a large, boarded-up empty London house. They break in at night and change the locks before drinking, having sex, etc. In the morning, feeling sick—but more than just hung over—they go to leave, only to find that the doors and windows have been sealed with metal and that there is no escape. They realize that they’ve been drugged, and that whoever did it must be with them inside the vast, derelict and pitch-black building.

“Slowly, a horrifying ordeal unfolds throughout the house,” he continues. “They find a dank cellar with four sinister metal chairs bolted to the floor, like a medieval doctor’s waiting room. From there, they awake slumped on the chairs, one by one, having been again drugged with gas, and a hideous and bloody climax unfolds that sees them fighting to get free from an unforgiving and sadistic terror.”

Simpson lensed the movie on locations in London and Ireland with the RED ONE digital camera system, assisted by a team from both the UK and Canada. “It was shot on a low budget but has high production values,” he says, “thanks to a good producer, Patrick O’Neill, and the dedication of the crew, including my gifted DP Vinit Borrison and hard-working production designer Daithi Magner. The cast is headed up by Emma Griffiths Malin, Reuben Henry-Biggs, Amy Noble, George Maguire and Johnny Regan.” Providing the score are The Cure drummer Jason Cooper and Oliver Kraus.
