The Troma-produced, Astron-6 directed neo-grindhouse masterpiece FATHER’S DAY is officially a hit! Ranking number four in the Horror section of Amazon, it is behind only pre-orders of the Joss Whedon blockbuster slasher CABIN IN THE WOODS and sets of television shows THE WALKING DEAD and GRIMM. Quite a coup for a flick made on 10 grand in cash, and a million dollars in the sheer will of five filmmakers to just get the thing done and done well.

Unfortunately, with disagreements between the filmmakers and the Troma Entertainment, what we are seeing isn’t all it could have been. For starters, the film included in the Troma special edition release may not represent the final cut of the film according to Astron-6. Also, notably missing will be footage used to create the documentary feature NO SLEEP, NO SURRENDER: THE MAKING OF FATHER’S DAY. The film was apparently offered to Troma for inclusion in the special edition release but there is a dispute over contractual obligations and it seems the two couldn’t come to terms.

Astron-6 has posted this video in response to numerous fan questions about the situation:

The weird saga continues!

However, fans should not be discouraged from picking this one up. It remains one of the best films of this year!
