It’s easy to dismiss the studio behind such films as MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS, TRANSMORPHERS, DEATH RACERS, THE TERMINATORS and countless others. Low production values, dubious attempts at association with A-list titles, sub-par acting; there are plenty of reasons one can dredge up scorn to heap on this studio. It’s almost too easy. That is why today I’m going to ask you to reconsider those thoughts and look a bit deeper into The Asylum its place is in the world of cinema.

I've been covering UK filmmaking collective Bloody Cuts since the second film in their thirteen-part short film anthology (STITCHES) and watching them grow and build upon their success has been a real pleasure. These guys really don't believe in plateaus, they keep pushing. They aren't simply piling on either. There is a genuine progression to more challenging stories and experimentation with different styles within the genre.

It was recently announced that rising B movie star Bianca Barnett (ALBINO FARM, DEAD INSIDE) has taken a starring role in the upcoming EXPERIMENTS IN KILLING. Directed by Joseph Christiana (THE NIGHTMARE, MOTEL AMERICANA VOL. II) the film is exactly as the title implies, an experiment. Using a companion podcast entitled EXPERIMENTS IN PODCASTING, listeners will be immersed in all aspects of the production and given a chance, via polling, to make critical decisions about the film. Christiana, along with producer Thomas Dettloff and his longtime director of photography William Bourassa Jr., are gambling that this innovative format is going to lead to a unique piece of indie film history.

The Troma-produced, Astron-6 directed neo-grindhouse masterpiece FATHER’S DAY is officially a hit! Ranking number four in the Horror section of Amazon, it is behind only pre-orders of the Joss Whedon blockbuster slasher CABIN IN THE WOODS and sets of television shows THE WALKING DEAD and GRIMM. Quite a coup for a flick made on 10 grand in cash, and a million dollars in the sheer will of five filmmakers to just get the thing done and done well.
