Exclusive WALKING DISTANCE trailer, photos, update

News - Film News

Writer/director Mel (CLOSET SPACE) House provided Fango with an exclusive new trailer for his ambitious indie shocker WALKING DISTANCE. He also sent along some exclusive new pics from the movie; you can see one below the trailer and the others at the bottom of this page.

walkingdistancetrailernews1The movie takes place in a small community that offers complete self-sufficiency, but has some extremely unpleasant secrets bubbling under its surface. “I’m happy to say that I’m 95 percent done with the initial rough cut,” House tells us. “Once I get that finished, we’ll start getting the plates out to our visual FX guys, so that they can get cracking on that stuff while I start on my second pass. Things are actually moving along rather quickly now; Hurricane Ike set our 2nd-unit shooting back about a month, but it worked out in our favor, as it gave us more time to plan out those shots.

“So WALKING DISTANCE is gradually taking shape, and it’s definitely going to throw people for a loop. Tonally, it’s turning out to be 180 degrees from anything I’ve seen in horror in a long time. Not saying that’s necessarily good or bad, as that will come down to individual taste, but I’m extremely proud to not have any slashers, vampires or zombies in my movie. We do have killer dolls, though. Sort of.”

It also has a cast that includes such familiar horror faces as PHANTASM’s Reggie Bannister, original FRIDAY THE 13TH heroine Adrienne King, FANGO RADIO’s Debbie Rochon and Kathy Lamkin, the Tea Lady from the new TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE films, along with Denton Blaine Everett, 24’s Glenn Morshower, Katie Featherston, Fango Spooksmodel Shannon Lark, Cesar Castillo, Omar Adam, Melanie Donihoo and James LaMarr. The latter also produced the film with House, and tells us, “Mel has really outdone himself on WALKING DISTANCE. After viewing a rough cut of the majority of the movie, I must say that I’m astounded. I’ve never seen anything like it, and that’s saying a lot considering how hard it is to be original in this day and age.

“Mel has a gift for storytelling,” LaMarr continues, “and has blown me away with his attention to detail and ability to get to the heart of these characters while scaring the audience. This is going to be a film that everyone not only talks about, but remembers forever. Take away the horror, and you’ve got a gripping drama that stands on its own. Take away the drama and you’ve got, well, horror. Fantastic, disturbing horror. It’s a perfect storm of entertainment.” Look for lots more coverage here and in Fango’s pages as WALKING DISTANCE approaches release.

I am a huge Adrienne King fan and can't wait to see this movie! I have been waiting for her return to the big screen since Friday the 13th part 2. I'm happy she's getting a 2nd chance to make a come back. I love this woman and would like to see her in another Friday film. she could work with Jared Padalecki in the next Friday the 13th film only don't kill her or Jared in it. She could play Jared's mom or something.

Hmmm...what articles are YOU reading? I mentioned Oddtopsy in my very first post-production press release right here:

    http://www.dreadcentral.com/story/exclusive-pics-from-walking-distance

As I recall, they also got talked up quite a bit in the older Fango articles (which I can't find on the new site, or I'd link to them).

Wish I could make sure that EVERYONE gets mentioned every time, but that's not the nature of it, unfortunately - ask our DP, our AD's, or our UPM...all of which busted their a**es to help make WALKING DISTANCE a reality but have escaped all but the most general of mentions.

But hey, if you want to write my press releases from now on, that would be great :).
