Chapman Encounters of The FOURTH KIND

News - Film News

OWLSince it first started airing trailers in front of DISTRICT 9, there's been some debate over whether or not Universal Studios' FOURTH KIND is a true story or not.

Evidence for it being true is the purported 'real' footage of the 'real' Dr. Abigail Tyler. The strongest claim for it's authenticity is all the footage of Dr. Tyler in the film is stamped "Chapman University", a real Southern California school.  Surely, a real university would not participate in such shenanigans...?

First clue as to the existence of "Dr. Abigail Tyler" is that her online research started a month ago, coincidentally when FOURTH KIND turned on it's PR blitz.

So how did they get Chapman University in on the hoax?  FOURTH KIND's writer/director Olatunde Osunsanmi is an alumni of the school. Chapman's Chappenings site comes clean on Osunsanmi and alien owls here

Even though this has been debunked, Chapman still has a major role in cinematic alien invasions.

Part of Roland Emmerich's INDEPENDENCE DAY was shot on campus.

For three different opinions on THE FOURTH KIND:

i belive that this film is not real...they show "actual footage" but it could be all taped in a hollywood studio. is there even any proof of this "abigal tyler"? or her son? i think its all crap...i enjoy watching it and i belive in it but the film is a lie -_-

Wellllllllllllllllll anyone who has experienced the dreams knows that something is going on! Exactly what it is or why is anyone's guess, but this movie details the phenomena with accuracy! THEY are DEMONIC and REAL!
  • manny  - they could be out there

Just saw the movie, and It makes you think about all the crazy shit that is out there, why cant some one figure out how to get it on a working video camera! I think that is the most frustrating part, not to mention that anyone who does come forward is immediately labeled crazy and locked up. So why even try. If you live without ever seeing something, great, and if you happen to be sucked out of your bed at 3:30am by a beam of light, sucks for you!
  • S~DLT  - Good for Chapman

I'm a Chapman alum, I'm glad they have the opportunity to get their name out there and not take it all so seriously. They do their students proud.

Real or not Educational Institutions should stay out of the viral promo biz, just leaves abad taste in your mouth.
  • WeirdArchives  - On this, I agree.

It's one thing when colleges make courses on films and television series to explore their cultural impact. (I won't go into details. I'm sure most of you know at least one insistence.) That I can handle. But when the colleges start going into the promotional business of Hollywood, then I get real uneasy about the line between real and BS. Colleges have to draw the border somewhere to keep them from getting burned.
  • WeirdArchives  - No surprises here.

Somebody decided to put the 'Based on Actual Events' label on this sucker, so they'd pulled some alumni strings, poured in some honorarium and BAM! Instant seal of authenticity.

I don't know if this is actually kosher, but as long as someone is not raising a fuss about it and no one's getting sued...the only causalities are truth and dignity here. It'll be forgotten in about a month. Mostly harmless funning.
  • Melissa  - OMG ITS SO SCARY (NO KIDDING)

F***ing creepy I am not going to sleep tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!! :scared:

  • Matteo  - We need to kill all owls

We can't take any chances. We should kill all owls just to be safe. I hope the owls aren't reading this and looking for me now.
