“THE GREEN MONSTER is my first solo screenwriting feature, following my co-writing work on Pete Jacelone’s SCULPTURE,” Wright tells us. “It originally began as a short film. I wanted to explore the problem of young women who give birth and then throw their babies away. Bryan and Nolan over at Untold Horror got their hands on the script and wanted to expand it into a feature, but that was something I really had no interest in doing. I felt that it functioned well as a short piece, and didn’t want to make an hour and a half of depressing social commentary.”
“We wanted to make a funny, bloody horror flick—no torture porn, no self-referential gags, no cheap CGI,” Wright continues. “Sure, there are moments that may offend some people, but being as outlandish and as controversial as we could be was not the goal. Going that route would have just cheapened the story. We hope this is the kind of film that horror fans watch and think, ‘Who can I show this to next?’ Rewatchability—that’s the true test of a successful horror flick. We were blessed with an amazing cast and crew and two wonderful directors, who really brought the script to life in ways I couldn’t have imagined.”
