Meanwhile, the two Blu-ray set of the complete theatrical cut of the Weinstein Company’s GRINDHOUSE (which we previously reported on here) has now been shifted to a street date of December 31 by Wal-Mart, which appears to be the only retailer offering it at the moment. That’s the slot the company has also set for a three-DVD GRINDHOUSE edition—but since that’s a Thursday, and discs usually street on Tuesdays, could that just be a default date? (A few years back, the Weinsteins announced a complete KILL BILL DVD set also ultimately dated Dec. 31…and we’re still waiting.) We’ll keep you posted on any further updates.
Halo-8 Entertainment sent along the scoop on the copious special features to be found on its disc of POP SKULL, the bizarre chiller that streets July 28. Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Wingard, E.L. Katz and Lane Hughes, the movie is about an addict (Hughes) struggling with literal and figurative ghosts. The extras include:

Producer Sean Fernald let us know that his movie RED VELVET will be available exclusively at Amazon.com August 28 (pre-orders begin July 28) as a DVD, digital download or three-day rental, and gave us the first look at the cover art. Henry Thomas stars as a young man who tells his apartment-building neighbor (Kelli Garner) a scary story—about the murders of her own friends at a cabin in the woods. Directed by Bruce Dickson from a script by Joe Moe (also a co-producer) and Anthony Burns, VELVET features the last of the late Forrest J Ackerman’s 112 screen cameos, and will be presented in anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The disc extras include:

The movie, which co-stars original HALLOWEEN veteran Charles Cyphers, centers on Nicholas Matthews, who murders his parents as a child under the influence of “The Dollman” and escapes from a mental hospital as an adult to continue his rampage. Content info has been announced for Anchor Bay’s THE HAUNTED WORLD OF EL SUPERBEASTO, coming Sept. 22, and Warner Home Video’s THE HILLS RUN RED, which arrives Sept. 29. SUPERBEASTO, the animated film from Rob Zombie in which the titular luchador (voiced by Tom Papa) battles alongside his sister Suzi X (Sheri Moon Zombie) to stop the evil Dr. Satan (Paul Giamatti), also features the vocal stylings of Rosario Dawson, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig, Daniel Roebuck, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace, Danny Trejo, Cassandra Peterson (a.k.a. Elvira) and others, will include animatics, deleted scenes/shots and alternate scenes on both DVD ($19.97) and Blu-ray ($34.98). Dave Parker’s HILLS, in which a group of horror fans go in search of a lost, notorious screen shocker and become the victims of a real-life slaughter scenario, will be on DVD only and include commentary by Parker, scripter David J. Schow and producer Robert Meyer Burnett, plus the “It’s Not Real Until You Shoot It: The Making of THE HILLS RUN RED” featurette. Retail price is $19.98.
