Fango got an update from the gang behind the 5th Annual South African Horrorfest, taking place this year from October 29-November 6 at the Labia Theatre in Cape Town. The festival has acquired an impressive lineup of films ranging from big-budget horror to ultra-indie to the incredibly grotesque.

 Fango Fiends in the UK have a new haunt to check out when Celluloid Screams, Sheffield’s first horror film festival arrives at the Showroom Cinema (Paternoster Row, Sheffield S1 2BX ) from October 23-25. With 24 hours worth of films "featuring everything from classic and cult horror to contemporary new releases," Celluloid Screams was created by award-winning Sheffield filmmaker and horror aficionado Rob Nevitt.  The 2009 FREAK SHOW Horror Film Festival took place this past weekend in Orlando, and Festival Director Robert J. Massetti just hit Fango with the full list of winners from the latest event. The three day celebration of the best in independent horror was highlighted by the World Premieres of Herschell Gordon Lewis' THE UH-OH SHOW (formerly GRIM FAIRY TALE) and THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO'S POND.

 The Scary Movies 3 festival being held by Manhattan’s Film Society of Lincoln Center October 12-22 at the Walter Reade Theater (165 West 65th Street, upper level), which we first reported on last week, has updated its schedule, with the addition of fright filmmaker Eric Red and two of his movies to the lineup. And in conjunction with the Film Society, Fango is offering five free pairs of tickets to the Thursday, October 15 at 8 p.m. showing of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, with writer/director John Landis in attendance!

 As Halloween approaches, a bunch more independent fright features and vintage scare flicks are debuting or showing at venues around the country… Florida’s Film Ranch company is hosting a free screening of its new science-fiction shocker BRAINJACKED (pictured) this Friday, October 9 at 10 p.m. at the Lakewood Ranch Cinemas (10715 Rodeo Drive #8, Lakewood Ranch, FL), sponsored by the Sarasota Film Society. Director Andrew Allan and producer Andy Lalino will accompany the movie, in which a center for troubled youths proves to be a haven for bizarre mind-control experiments.
