Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

Remakes ruins the chances for sequels!

There is certain movie franchises that I've always wanted to see sequels of.
To mention some; Gremlins, Ghostbusters, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street.
Remakes mostly ruin the opportunities for franchises to make sequels after the remakes are made.
Like for example Halloween. I've always wanted to see Halloween 9. Nothing wrong with Rob Zombie's movies, cause I actually liked them, but as Zombie made them, he probably ruined the chances for Halloween 9 ever being made.
The same goes for Child's Play. I just heard yesterday that they are gonna make a remake, and I was like WTF?!
Ever since I watched Child's Play 5; Seed Of Chucky, I've waited for another installment in teh series. And you have to agree with me that the movie really sets up for anoter sequel?'
Since I was a kid I've been waiting for Gremlins 3 and Ghostbusters 3, and I really mean it, if some dirtbag makes remakes of Gremlins or Ghostbusters, I will haunt that person down, cause some movies have to be holy!

As much as I actually are exited to see the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, I was hoping for a sequel instead.
Same goes for Freddy Vs Jason. I know many people hate that movie, but I actually found it quite entertaining, and I had hoped they would make Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash.

I also know that many people are bored by all the sequels in the SAW franchise. I have to disagree!
SAW is the single most successful horrormovie franchise in recent years. And I really hope they will make 10 movies.

But I have to agree that not all remakes are bad, and sometimes I'm ok with remakes. For example the remake of The Hills Have Eyes, cause I know there will not be a Hills Have Eyes 3, and I really don't want to see a 3rd movie either, so I'm absolutely cool with the movies being remaked. I also have to agree that the remakes was actually pretty good.

But if you are gonna make a remake of a old classic movie, like April Fool's Day or Prom Night, why the hell make it PG-Rated!?! What the fuck is happening to the world? We got Cencored music, PG-rated Wrestling and PG-Rated horrormovies. What's next? PG-Rated Porn?!?

Stop making silly remakes and make some good sequels instead, you silly capitalistic movie whores!

And that's the bottom line!

Cause Cable Guy said so!!

I agree with you. I bet you that the exact same thing is probably going to happen with "Phantasm."  tallmanani

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

^^ I know! It's totally stupid! Why make a remake of Evil Dead when Evil Dead 2 actually is a remake of the first movie?

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

evil dead 2 was not a remake. if u paid attention they retold the events of the first movie in the first 5 minutes of evil dead 2, they just changed the story a bit, and when the movie starts is when ash gets attacked by the spirit flying toward him, hense the ending of the first one ended with the spirit attacking him the second begins with the spirit attacking him.
just like in Army of Darkness how they changed the story line a lil bit.

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

how the hell is it a remake?
it's a sequel.
they just tell the story  of the first movie in the first 5 minutes then they roll onto the whole new plot and story.
how the heck is it a remake?

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

^^ Whole new plot? LOL! The movies are ridicilously similar. And I'm not the only one that likes to think of Evil Dead 2 as a remake of Evil Dead.

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

dude evil dead ended with the spirit crashing through the house and getting ash.
the beggining starts with a retelling of the first for 5 minutes then the spirit crashes through the house and gets ash and thats when the sequel begins.
it's like saying army of darkness is a remake also because the beginning has a retelling of the first two movies and the second one ended with him going to the past.

^^ If you're trying to get me mad, it's not working this time. Many people share my view on that, I love both films, so it's nothing about that. If you don't have anything to say about my rant, please don't post hundreds of replies, cause I made this thread to rant about things I don't like.

Re: Cable Guy's Movierant

Remakes don't ruin the chances for sequels - bad sequels ruin the chances for more sequels to be made.

As much as people complain about how bad horror is now, so many sequels - as well as knock-offs - were released in the '80s that horror quickly descended into parody. When a franchise's continuity would get too convoluted - or just too ridiculous - studios stopped making more sequels.

Remakes are quite simply the only way long-dead franchises have any chance of making their way to the big screen - like 'em or not.
