Re: My name is Bruce

Got a chance to watch it last night and unfortunately, I thought it was pretty bad. I wish Bruce would do the second BHT.

I got an alternative, yeah, yeah, I got an alternative. Let's get in that old whirly-bird, find us an island some place, get juiced up and spend what time we got left soakin' up some sunshine! How's that?  -John ( George Romero's Day of the Dead)

Re: My name is Bruce

Ok, so I forced myself to watch "My Name Is Bruce" and although it's not the worst thing I've ever seen, it's not a good flick at all. It was decently and competently shot, but I think you have to be an obsessed-die-hard Campbell fan to dig it. Campbell was basically playing a caricature of himself even quoting his own lines from the "Evil Dead" films, but the purposely bad-acting was really shitty and it wasn't funny. It was like Campbell and Ted Raimi were winking at the audience the whole time saying "look at how comical we can be." It felt really forced and I don't even know how anyone can categorize it as a horror movie. And Campbell pussed out and didn't show any T & A at all. WEAK.

Re: My name is Bruce

My name is Bruce was worth one watch, it had it's moments...... but it just seemed way to goofy.

More than Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness?

Yes, the evil dead films had a better storyline, and special effects, my name is bruce was like a Mel Brooks film. Granted you could compare it to Army or the Man with the screaming brain.  I was not a fan of Army of Darkness back in 93. I thought Army was a complete sell out, just a comedy horror piece of shit.  But that was the new trend in the late 80's and 90's. Anyways like I said, My name is Bruce had it's moments and I think Bruce is a nice guy. He just takes bad roles sometimes, and he is not the best director.

Re: My name is Bruce

Bruce should stick to documentary films. Fan Analysis his doc on fans and fanatics is entertaining.

Agreed. Except I think even Mel Brooks movies are better. "Young Frankenstein" and "Spaceballs" and "Blazing Saddles" KILLS this movie.

Kinda like the past 12 years of The Simpsons. I'll pass.

Words jasonani

I think this is a pretty fair summary of My Name is Bruce. Bruce is playing an over-the-top caricature of himself and the whole thing shoots across the line of absurd and never looks back. I actually enjoyed it though, despite all of that, in a "this is ridiculous" kind of way. Not amazing, not scary, but got a few good laughs from me as a Campbell fan.

I honestly feel like you are over-thinking this movie. It didn't seem forced to me, it just felt like a silly film made for the sole purpose of fun - fun for those involved and fun for the viewers. And I think it accomplished that goal.

And as far as T & A... I hate when directors cast themselves in a movie and then include graphic sex scenes starring... themselves. Frankly it comes off as more than a little creepy, and although I have no problem with Bruce engaging in sex scenes when he's not the director (like in Running Time, which will make you see Bruce in a whole new way), I'm glad he didn't go that route with MNIB.

I don't feel I'm over-thinking it at all. The film is made for die-hard Bruce-Campbell fans (which I am not-I don't hate the guy. I think he's a competent actor, but I just don't worship the smell of his farts like some crazed fans of his do). I found it a bit boring and you didn't really dig that ending, did you? As for the T & A, I don't mean that I wanted to see Campbell in any sex scene (that would be gross), I'm just saying that since the movie is obviously and purposely done in a "campy/cheesy" way, they should have shown some flesh (especially when they had some attractive women in it as extras and also the very attractive lead actress). As well as maybe amped up the gore, had a better "villain/monster" than the one they had and it would have added to it and made it a lot better. Since Campbell had no problem with dropping F-bombs, why stop at that?

Re: My name is Bruce

I was laughing most of the time. Perhaps I'm under-thinking it.

I'm not a huge Campbell fan but I thought this was hilarious. I think the jokes were great and it kind of made me wonder if he was making fun of himself more or just movie making in general.

His die hard fans should appreciate it and if your not one you'll probably still have a few laughs watching it
