It's not like it isn't true. I love Pantera but let's be realistic here, after Dime was shot he started making "Greatest Guitarist of All Time" lists placing top 5 and sometimes #1!

Have you heard the guitar players those hair metal bands have (which Pantera was at one point too)? There's tons of great guitarists out there, and Dime was one of them, but he wasn't head and shoulders above everyone else.

Actually i hate most hair metal bands and yes I know Dimebag was apart of them.....and yes, he was miles ahead of all of them.

At 18 years old he was a genius when it came to guitar playing. I've convinced this too many Eric Clapton fans that thought otherwise. Shall I post videos???

But when he finally came into his own....he was renowned KING of  "thrash metal".....apparently his brother on drums is also KING of this department and developed quite a following that started quite the trend.

I don't think I'm wrong in saying that........What band nowadays in the so called metal scene, wouldn't include him as an influence?Huh?

Re: Ok horror fans (brother sisters?) help me out on this one.

Whether you like hair metal isn't the point. I was using them as an example of great guitar players who don't get the recognition they deserve because of their image; style of music or whatever.

The fact that you would say Dimebag was miles ahead of them just proves my point. How objective are you being?
I'm not saying Dimebag wasn't an excellent guitarist, all I'm saying is he seems to get much more recognition for his playing after his death than before.

btw, what does posting videos have to do with anything? I've seen Dime play many times.

Because he obviously won YOU over makes him great to YOU. And it's great that you like him, And no one is trying to take that away from you. But accept the fact that there's a lot less out there praising the guy then you suspect.

And sorry to break it to you, but being the King of Thrash at a time when there was no competing Thrash bands isn't too terribly difficult a distinction to earn.

I'm sure there was other great guitar players but I doubt they could have done some of the solos I've seen Dime do when he was young without missing a note. I meant those videos of him when he's younger, theres a few on youtube and the Dimevision DVD, which to me means he could only of gotten better.

I'll agree that after he died he did get more recognition and it was unfortunate it happened that way. I remember hearing before it happened though a lot of amazing guitar players saying he was the best.

You at least have to admit he's one of the best.

I'm sure you think your favourite guitar players are the best.

Why would you doubt that they could do what he did except, for no other reason, that you don't like that type of music?

You obviously haven't heard Vito Bratta (White Lion), Michael Kelly Smith (Britny Fox), Steve Vai, Vinnie Vincent, Thomas McRocklin (Bad 4 Good), Yngwie Malmsteen, just to name a few.  They have DONE what he's done.

Again, I'm not saying he wasn't great, I'm just saying he was one of a hundred others who were just as good and doesn't really deserve to be in the running for "greatest guitar player of all time" (nobody was saying that when he was alive, even during Pantera's peak years). His fans are martyring him in death and I have to wonder if he would even consider himself at the level that others are putting him.

If you can realize why I picked such obscure names rather than Eddie Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Yea I think a lot of the greatest have shitty music but I understand how talented they are. Let's stop arguing, it's not like there's a test anywhere you can take to see where you line up on a list of greatest guitar players. I'm pretty sure that's something we both can agree on.

You should read LORDS OF CHAOS: THE BLOODY RISE OF THE SATANIC METAL UNDERGROUND by Michael Moynihan & Didrik Søderlind.

Good book, I read it in jail.

Agreed Psycho-C

Anyway Darkstar, just pick up Carcass' Heartwork. Cuz if you don't like that album then you might as well give up on the genre.
