Re: Drag Me to Hell

I really want to see this. I wonder how Justin Long will be in it though, considering when I think of him and horror in the same sentence, the first thing that comes to mind is Jeepers Creepers *cringe*

I didnt like him in it.

Best horror films Ive seen in 2009

1 - Martyrs (this is an amazing movie...seriously)

2- All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
3- Eden Lake

Re: Drag Me to Hell

Long didn't bother me, but I couldn't help envisioning someone like James Franco for the role, and thinking about how much more someone like him could have added to what is already a great film.

Let's have a little less talk of drugs and wife-shooting and a few more friendly welcomes for warcry, okay?

Re: Drag Me to Hell

Okay, so I just got back from Drag Me To Hell last night and was really not that impressed.  The story itself does not tread any new ground, but it is entertaining for the sheer fact that Raimi makes the most with the material covered. SPOILERS GALORE* Lohman does a great job as the lead and displays some versatility in some very key scenes, particularly where  the demons have their way with her on the ensuing days following the gypsy curse.  She was believable in the role as a loan officer trying to mix niceties with the harsh and cruel side of business. Her boyfriend, Clay, (Justin Long) just felt out of sorts with this movie. I never truly envisioned he and Lohman's character hitting it off. I, with the many before me, felt that Justin Long was the lone miscast of the film.

Also, I understand that Raimi was heavily influenced by the slap-sticky humor of the Three Stooges, but that doesn't mean I want to see it in every one of his horror films not named The Evil Dead II.  I know this isn't supposed to be a terrifying, straight-up horror movie, but I just felt that some doses of his comedic style took away from parts that would have benefitted from a darker and more serious tone (see: the key seance scene). And one final component - and a huge one at that - was the film's ending. *STILL SPOILERS* Why didn't Clay die if he still possessed the cursed button? I thought the ending was contorted for that fact alone. Her spiritual guide stated that whomever held onto the cursed object, would be the one that the Lhamia (sp?) demon would come for and literally drag to hell. So, with that said, why did she meet the fate she did? I felt that it would've been a darker film had they both met grisly fates. For instance, upon seeing that Clay still had her button, she would be shocked and still could have fallen onto the tracks; however, since Clay had the button, he could have been dragged to hell and she could have been smoked by the oncoming train as he desperately tried to save her, while being held back by the demons. I don't know. I'm all for the dark endings and this one could have gone for a knock-out had it concluded that way. I just felt like, "What? That's it! Really?!?" *END SPOILERS*

Oh, and what's up with the CGI? Stop it, already! Not since The Midnight Meat Train have I seen eyeballs coming out of the socket look so damned cheesy.

SPOILER TO SPOILER

she had to give the button to someone who accepts it.obviously the dead gypsy didn`t take possession. so when her boy friend tried to give it to her it was hers no matter which one held it it was hers ,not his.

Re: Drag Me to Hell

Why didn't Clay die if he still possessed the cursed button?
Because it wasn't his she never gave it to him she just dropped it in his car and took the wrong envelope.
The button was still her's she had to give it to him and he had to officially  accept.
That was the only way to pass the curse on to another person. The giving it to the dead gypsy I wasn't
to sure about why that would work. I'm sure they explained it but I missed it.

Re: Drag Me to Hell

I finally watched this movie tonight and it wasn't even worth finishing... but I did anyway.

It starts off tolerable but then takes a huge shit somewhere I just couldn't put my finger on. I was sitting there watching and realized I was viewing a giant shit sandwich. The Mac computer guy needs to never be allowed in a film again and that girl wouldn't never date his bitch ass IRL anyway. All the grossout humor was fucking weak and racial rainbow of the cast seemed kind of forced. This film is on par shit wise with the Spiderman dumps. Anyone that says this film brings Raimi back to form is out of their fucking mind.

Re: Drag Me to Hell

I just watched it and yeah, it falls well short of the hype. That being said  i sat through it and kinda enjoyed it but i was expecting more. I was kinda hoping for an Evil Dead vibe but it was more like the lame parrody of Army Of Darkness only not as good. Oh well, maybe next time!
